닫혀있는 배경에 원형의 틈새를 낸다. 그럼으로써 마치 그 동그란 구멍을 통해 주변의 공기가 휘몰아 빠져나가듯 막힌 상태에서의 단절감과 답답함이 개방감과 순환으로 변화한다. 닫힘과 열림, 개방과 폐쇄라는 복합적 상태 그리고 시각적 흥미와 균형이 느껴지는 원형의 창은 그 틈새 너머로 보이는 풍경을 완전히 열린 상태에서 보이는 그것과 확연히 다르게 만든다. Porthole series는 다양한 배경과 맥락에서 단순히 원형의 틈새를 뚫어냄으로써 변화하는 것들과 새롭게 보이는 것들에 주목한다.
Create a circular gap in the closed background. By doing so, the sense of disconnection and stuffiness in the clogged state changes into a sense of openness and circulation, as if the surrounding air is being blown out through the round hole. The complex state of closed and open and the circular window that feels visual interest and balance make the landscape seen through the gap distinctly different from that seen in a completely open state. The Porthole series focuses on things that change and appear new by simply piercing circular gaps in various backgrounds and contexts.
